The Lee Honors College addition and renovation is one of our favorite projects to date. Consisting of the addition and renovations to the Lee Honors College on the main campus of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The scope of work included the removal, salvage and reinstallation of the existing exterior precast walls to add 4,000 square feet to the 8,400-square-foot building, including a library, two internal classrooms, the renovation of two existing classrooms, an outdoor class meeting area with amphitheater seating, a remodeled lounge and upgraded technology throughout.
Removal and replacement of the existing roofing system, installation of new curtain walls, store fronts, interior walls, custom glass walls, painting, flooring, custom wood wall covering, wood doors & hardware, custom millwork & work surfaces, lighting and lighting controls, automated window coverings, technology, replacement of the existing fire alarm system, revisions to the existing wet sprinkler system, automated building controls, replacement of the existing air handler, VAV’s, new duct distribution, chilled water lines, and revisions to the existing steam lines.
The interior renovation was accomplished with partial occupancy of the existing adjacent offices. The additional space consisted of classrooms, workrooms, and conference rooms.
The millwork was constructed and installed following AWI Premium Grade Standards. The workroom’s millwork cabinetry has multi-level drawers, shelving, and work surfaces. Each classroom and conference room has distance-learning capability. Winner of the ABC Award for Excellence in 2012.
